Our Story

Swad Indian Kitchen is the brainchild of Kamal Mroke, who arrived in Vancouver from Punjab in the early 1980s. With a deep passion for food and hospitality, Kamal worked his way up from a dish washer to a renowned restaurateur. His journey is a testament to hard work, dedication, and a love for bringing people together through food. Swad Indian Kitchen is Kamal’s latest venture, where he brings the flavors of India to Vancouver with a modern twist, ensuring every dish tells a story.

Navneet Mroke

Kind-hearted, exuberant and caring, Navneet was married into the restaurant world. Having no prior experience whatsoever, Navneet dove in headfirst and became the brains behind the operation. Teaching herself how to do all the backend paperwork, Navneet became an invaluable asset and a cheerful face customers can look forward to seeing every time they come into Swad.

Kamal Mroke

Dedicated, driven and strong-willed, Kamal has been drawn to the restaurant world from a young age. Starting as a dishwasher, Kamal worked his way up and learned everything he could about the restaurant world. Learning all the ins and outs, because even at such a young age, Kamal had large aspirations of eventually opening his own restaurant.

Having attended formal training in French cuisine, Kamal sets out to constantly push boundaries and look for niches providing customers with fresh and new culinary ideas. Now, after having opened over 10 different restaurants over 30 years, there is no end in sight as Kamal is always looking to capitalize on his next brilliant new idea.

Sahib Mroke

Young, ambitious and forward thinking, Sahib was born into the restaurant world. Having grown up with 2 restaurateurs it’s no surprise that working in a restaurant should come second nature to him, especially since he’s been helping with the family business since the age of 13. Bringing a new age, modern thinking, Sahib looks to not simply follow in his parents’ footsteps, but rather exceed them.
